In
1970 David was born into a hard working middle class family in London,
England, and was swiftly guided into pursuing a career in the electrical
industry. As he climbed up the ladder to management positions he soon
realized that the heights of office politics were not for him and set
off to travel the world.
Through a chance meeting with the visionary lighting designer Ingo Maurer
in New York his interest in high quality artistic lighting installations
was awakened. A two and a half year working relationship with Ingo Maurer,
whose work is part of the MoMA collection, followed. David thrived on
tasks such as: Could you create the optical illusion of floating
tables for an event? where his technical knowledge could be put
to creative and unexpected uses.
Over the last 5 years David Wharrams own visionary talent has flourished
and his first whimsical chandelier-like arrangement of paper lanterns
was featured on The
Oprah Winfrey Show. Contemporary chandeliers have become a special
interest as they bring the splendor and importance of atmospheric lighting
back to centre stage. David Wharrams lighting landscapes take the
inhabitant from a warm ambient glow to an illuminated brightness that
celebrates the magnificence of light and the objects placed within it.
